FP7: The European Commission’s new framework research program
On December 22nd, 2006, the European Commission published its Calls for Proposals as part of the provisional work programs:
- of the 7th framework program for research, technological development and demonstration activities
- of the 7th Euratom framework program for nuclear energy-related research and training programs.

Third call for projects for FP7's Health theme
Among all of the calls for proposals, we would like to call your attention to the FP7's 3rd call for projects for the health theme, to be officially published in September 3rd, 2008.
This call features a budget of over €590 million.
70 specific calls are to be announced, including calls dedicated to Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV, Bacterial Resistance, Antibiotics and Systems Biology.
Two different procedures will be published:
- For the "FP7-HEALTH-2009-single-stage" calls. This call features an overall budget of €115 million.
Deadline: December 3rd, 2008.
- For the "FP7-HEALTH-2009-two-stage" calls. An overall budget of €476 million is to be granted for this call.
Deadline: December 3rd, 2008 for the first step.

First call for projects for the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)
The IMI aims to increase competitiveness in the European biomedical sector by encouraging the development of new resources enabling greater safety and efficacy for medicines.
The IMI's governance is composed of the European Commission and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA).
5 diseases are the primary targets:
- Cancers
- Infectious diseases and resistance to antibiotics
- Neurological and psychiatric disorders
- Inflammatory diseases
- Metabolic diseases
The first call, open since April 30th, 2008, includes 18 topic areas.
€123 million will be allocated to the selected research projects.
Consortium projects are to be submitted by July 15th, 2008 at 5 p.m.
Public consortiums may be composed of Medical Centers, public laboratories, SMBs, Patient Associations and Public Authorities.
One consortium will be selected per topic area.
