Creation

This project started in 2007 as part of the State-Region Project Contract (CPER). It is truly the cluster's flagship project, conceived by Christophe Mérieux , then President of Lyonbiopôle, as soon as the cluster was accredited in 2005. Today, it is becoming a concrete reality with the opening of the 1st phase in April 2009 in the Domilyon Building, on the Charles Mérieux Campus in Lyon Gerland.

For four years, the momentum has been built around the concept of a  healthcare shield, anb today the Infectiology Center is a cornerstone to develop the Lyonbiopôle' s strategy.

The Infectiology Center boosts Research and Development in addressing three fundamental needs:

1 - boost regional innovation
   - Construct public and private research collaboration and exchanges
   - Access technical support
2 - Host collaborative teams
3 - Integrate structured networks

This platform - the only one of its kind in Europe - will bring together key expertise in the field of infectiology by hosting researchers from all horizons.

• The vocation of the Infectiology Center is to give momentum to collaboration between industrial and scientific players, to facilitate the deployment of certain key projects for the cluster's development and, finally, to share resources and facilities (the Biosafety Level 3 lab, technical platforms and more).
• The aim of the Infectiology Center is to launch new research projects and new industrial activities. It will provide services to encourage collaborative projects between the cluster's public and private members and host, for a given period of time, projects and research teams accredited by the cluster. Through its unique organization, the Infectiology Center hopes to attract research teams from around the world to the region

In conclusion, the strengthes of the Infectiology Center:
- its incorporation of public and private research teams
- work together on collaborative projects
- shared high-level facilities in a protected environment (laboratories and IT resources)
- This original concept will help to boost the visibility of the cluster and the region around

   the world.
