Established in 1956, CEA Grenoble is the first technological research centre in Rhone-Alpes. It groups 115 laboratories. One of the most famous, the Leti, is at the leading edge of micro and nanoelectronic research in Europe. It dedicates most of its research to nanotechnologies, biotechnologies and new technologies for energy and materials. The CEA Grenoble is at the cutting-edge of technological research and participates actively in transferring this knowledge to industry. It launched 37 start-ups and deposited 225 patents in 2005. Minatec, the largest centre in micro-nanotechnologies in Europe, was launched at the instigation of the CEA and the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG).
