The Infectiology Center: a facility where Lyonbiopôle players can share their R&D activities
At the heart of the Charles Mérieux Campus, The Infectiology Center is a cornerstone of Lyonbiopôle's strategy. The Center will help Lyonbiopôle to carry out its public health mission, as well as to boost the region's economic development.

The Infectiology Center will act as a central venue for building links between academic and private research teams, from local SMBs and major corporations.
Funding is to be provided by the French State as well as local authorities including the Rhône-Alpes Region and Greater Lyon.
The Infectiology Center's services
The Center will offer the following services:
- Assistance in setting up R&D projects
- Hosting of teams for collaborative projects
- Access to shared technical platforms
- Sharing of high-level equipment
- Links with an international network of expertise and skills.
The role of the Infectiology Center
In addition to hosting R&D partnership teams and projects for an average of 3 years, the Center will provide:
- A place for epidemiological, industrial and competitive intelligence to build a healthcare shield (founded upon diagnostics, vaccines, delivery systems and new therapies)
- Network leadership of European research programs to drive the cluster's international development
- A home for the Lyonbiopôle team, a place for synergy, special events and sharing ideas and experiences.
A two-phase real estate project
The real estate program is composed of laboratories (technical platforms and project platforms) and areas for special events and meetings in a modular, high profile environment with technology that provides biological safety and IT security.
- Phase 1 - Opening of 7 research laboratories and a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory in Gerland in October 2008.
- Phase 2 - Setup of the Infectiology Center in 2012/2013 at the Chancellerie site, along with the Infectious Disease Virology and Pathology Institute (IVIPI); 8,400 sq.m, capacity 450 researchers.
